Freedom of Information Act Request National Personnel Records Center (Military Personnel Records)
9700 Page Ave.
St Louis, MO 63132
Dear FOIA Manager,
My last correspondence to your office was dated Sept. 16, 1999 on this particular FOIA request. My first request was made March 17, 1999. In the interim period, I submitted correspondence June 2 and June 17, 1999.
Your response of May 21, 1999, indicated that the records for this individual may have been destroyed in a fire there July 12, 1973. 1 responded that the words, "may have been destroyed" is not a I satisfactory response, as it indicates a thorough search of your files was not done, but rather an assumption was made by using the term "may have been". I am therefore re-requesting that a thorough search be performed of this individuals record, to ascertain if the information being requested is in fact in his file.
The request is for:
Ist Lt. Robert J. Shirkey
Serial/ Service No: x xxx xxx
Date of Birth: xx/xx/xxxx
Place of separation from the military: Weaver, SD
Information requested:
Copy of telegram/teletype dated on or about 17 July, 1947, from 8th Air Force, Fort Worth, Texas, reassigning Lt. Shirkey from Roswell Army Air Field to Clark Field, Philippines.
Mr. Shirkey knows the message existed because he was assigned to the Philippines, but did not keep a copy of the transfer message.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act Law, I expect a more satisfactory response than previously received, using the term "may have been". I received no response at all from your office, to my Sept. 16, 1999 letter, which included copies of my March 17, and June 17, 1999 correspondence.
Respectfully submitted,
Dennis G. Balthaser
